The Oasis restaurant was opened in 1982 by owner Beau Theriot. Since the devastating fire on June 1, 2005 Theriot is off to build a “bigger, better” version of his vision.Theriot envisions a village atmosphere inspried by venues he has seen around the world. He describes it as being a destination for a variety of dining experiences, live music, shopping, lodging, and living. The Oasis is about 50 percent complete as a result of a partnership with developers from Houston.
The originally purchased 500 acres of land but donated 350 acres as a bird preserve, leaving the remaining 150 acres for development. With the additions of Uncle Billy’s Bar-B-Q and Brew and Soleil a three story parking garage is just adjacent to the restaurant. The next phase, a two-story shopping village with space for 35 “Texas-centric” retail stores, will open this spring.
Set to break ground soon is a planned 18 unit condominium project, Canyon Palms Condominiums. Also a 60 room lodge is in the development stage as well. Theriot says the lodge will not be a luxury hotel, but rather an affordable retreat for friends and families that come to visit in the area. The partners would like to add an additional “unbranded” mid-scale hotel across the street on Comanche Trail, equipped with a pool, parking and less than 100 rooms.
