I recently went to a remodeled home for a real estate showing and cringed as I walked through the bright red door that was next to a light shade of washed-out blue. I’m not a decorator, but I knew something wasn’t right and it bothered me from the moment I walked in the door. Curious, I snapped a photo of the front of the home and sent it to Kim Bailey, our in-house designer. She quickly explained to me the importance of color and gave the home owner a few easy suggestions that changed the entire look and feel of the entryway. I was amazed at the transformation a few carefully selected colors could do!
Why do we feel relaxed and calm in some spaces and uneasy in others? Why are we drawn into some rooms or to some products but turned-off by others? The answer is in the colors! The effects of color are both emotional and physical. It’s critical that you choose colors that will complement each other and create the atmosphere you desire in each room of your home or entryway. Do you want your dining room to be vivacious and stimulating or restful and soothing? If you have a hard time matching your socks to your outfit, don’t try this alone!! Hiring a trained designer or decorator will save you time, money and aggravation with your color selection process.
