There’s an art to selecting and styling the centerpiece of your great room, otherwise known as a coffee table. Most of us will use this table to drop our purses, prop up our feet, and as a resting place for our beverages. We also want this table to make a statement and create a focal point for our room. This table is an open canvas inviting you to share and explore your decorating creativity.
The color and texture of the table will dictate what elements of design are added. If you select a simple, sleek table then you’ll want design elements that add pizzazz to your piece. If you select a colorful or textured table, choose simpler accent pieces. Utilizing floral arrangements, personal items such as books and art pieces, as well as small glass pieces can make turn a boring table into a masterpiece. Varying the heights of your pieces is key. Color is very important in selecting your design elements. If you want to make color add some zing to your room go for larger, brighter pieces that compliment the colors you currently have in that room.
Some designers are going minimalist, especially in contemporary homes. The coffee table itself can become the art piece and paired with a simple accent, it can make the statement all alone. Pictured here is a 4th edition design coffee table made with hand selected, natural wood. This table paired with a simple teal glass vase is a minimalist approach to making a statement. The textured table creates a contrast for the smooth teal vase. Teal is pulled throughout the room to accent the vintage Chicago brick wall and more neutral-toned furniture.
