Lakeways City Council Approves New Marina

Lakeway city council has approved the new marina agreement project. Travis County will still have to make the final decision that will give the city of Lakeway the go ahead for the marina project and it could be annexed within the year.

Some regulations were set in the agreement giving specific attention to regulating security, noise, traffic, and other issues regarding the Crosswater Yacht Club. The Crosswater Yacht Club had already drawn some opposition last year from residents living nearby in the Graveyard Point community.

Development is expected to begin in the first half of 2011 according to the developer Kemp Properties, that is of course if Travis County approves the plans.

Plenty of residents spoke at the council meeting on Dec. 20th, some residents want the project to happen citing that it will boost the area’s property values, and give lake access to homes that aren’t right on the water.

For the majority of the residents however they are opposed to any commercial enterprise in the neighborhood, they continue to have ongoing lawsuits with Crosswater over the ownership of the property.

In the agreement it provides that security personnel will be on-site from 7am-9pm, with 24 hour camera monitoring, and frequent security sweeps. The members of the Marina must also observe quiet hours from 10pm-7am every day.

Attorney for Crosswater Dowe Gullatt, had shown a study by Alliance Transportation Group Inc. The study showed the marina would increase traffic by less than 5% of the normal daily totals on Hurst Creek Road. Mr. Gullatt stated a truck would deliver fuel to the marina up to two times per week and possibly only once a month when the boating season slows down.

This property is located within the Lakeway extraterritorial jurisdiction. A provision in the agreement gives a 10-15 year time period in which the property can’t be annexed by the city but that was the original document. The revised document changed it from 10-15 years to one year. Lakeways council unanimously approved the agreement but stressed they do not have the final say Travis County will have the final vote.
