Going Green

temp-post-image

New homes are going up all around Austin and more people are choosing to utilize green products. Energy efficiency is the main goal. At Masters Touch Custom Homes we design our homes to have the best solar orientation possible. This provides adequate natural light in a home yet keeps the home from excessive direct sunlight that is extremely intense in Texas.

Utilizing proper insulation and 2x6 over 2x4 boards is another important decision element when creating proper insulation. The extra 2 inches will allow for a better thermal barrier from heat and the loss of cool air inside the home. We also use ZipSystem rather than Tyvek to ensure that up to 25% less air and energy are lost from the home.

Irrigation requires a large amount of energy and water. We suggest selections of plants that are drought-tolerant as well as installing irrigation thermostats that will let you know if a pump is leaking.

Finally, requesting energy-efficient appliances and a tankless water heater will further reduce the energy consumption in your home. An addition of solar panels on the roof can decrease energy bills by an additional 25% as well.
