Getting off the Grid
With electric bills rising annually, tax rebates for solar panel installation and the most recent announcement from Tesla Motors, I think it’s time I look into getting off the grid. In the past, this statement made me think of someone living in the country with a windmill, solar panel system, a small home and large water cistern in the front yard. Never did I dream that the technology would be available AND affordable to stop paying high electric bills.
Elon Musk recently announced the introduction of a $3000 home battery that charge via solar panels during the day and store 10 kWh of electricity for your home. Below is a Youtube video posted by Tesla Motors a few days ago that has already had over a million hits.

Essentially, you can have an unobtrusive battery pack hanging on your wall storing energy during the day. Not mentioned in the video is the cost of the solar panels, but having them is necessary for the battery pack to work. Tesla is also implementing gigafactories that will be covered in the panels to create their own electricity and stop needless pollution from coal and nuclear power plants. The future of energy is clean and green.
